Description
Despite the vast amount of development models, theories and programs, there is still a serious leadership gap. According to HR Magazine: “CEO churn is at an all time high…. Turnover among chief executives soared 53 percent between 1995 and 2001, according to the 2002 study ‘Why’ CEOs Fall: The Causes and Consequences of Turnover at the Top,’ conducted by Booz Allen Hamilton of McLean, Va. The number of CEOs who left their jobs under pressure more than doubled during that period, and average CEO tenure plunged more than 23 percent, according to the study of 2,500 publicly traded companies.”1 Not much has improved since that 2002 article was published, according to a May 18, 2006 Washington Post article2: “More than 15 percent of the world's 2,500 biggest companies lost their chief executives last year, and only half of the departures were voluntary….” “The statistics from North America tend to bear that out. Thirty-five percent of chief executives who departed in 2005 were forced out -- the most ever recorded in the survey -- compared with 44 percent who left voluntarily and 25 percent who lost their jobs because of mergers. …the number of chief executives forced out for performance-related reasons has more than quadrupled, Kocourek said.” What about non-CEO’s – the other organizational managers? Most of us have heard about the shocking statistics on workforce engagement – a reflection of poor leadership. According to the Gallup Management Journal’s semi-annual Employee Engagement Index over 60% of American workers are either not engaged or actively disengaged. Why this problem? Why is the development of effective leaders such an elusive goal for many organizations? What do these results say about current leadership training, and organization development practices? This workshop will address these challenges, and offer a methodology to help improve the effectiveness of leadership development within organizations. The session will be interactive and experiential. Specifically this workshop will… Assess the state of leadership development Review Orthodox Organization Development key concepts Answer how “Orthodox OD” addresses leadership development Propose how to re-brand and re-engineer current OD consulting in order to enhance leadership practices Provide skill practiceSpeakers
