Shelley started her animal training career teaching basic obedience and behavior modification for pet dog owners. She earned her degree in Exotic Animal Training and Wildlife Management at America’s Teaching Zoo in Moorpark California in 2008, where she trained several species of animals such as monkeys, birds, cougars, pigs, a kinkajou, and an alligator to name a few. Shelley spent time training animals for movies/television for Steve Martin’s Working Wildlife and was responsible for the care and training of a herd of African elephants at Disney’s Animal Kingdom.
In addition to her Exotic Animal Training degree, Shelley’s educational endeavors include receiving a Bachelor of Arts in Psychology at the University of Central Florida in 2005 and a double Master of Science degrees in Applied Behavior Analysis and Industrial and Organizational Psychology from Capella University in 2020. Shelley found the field of organizational development through her career path into leadership and her I/O Psychology degree. Inspired by employee engagement and leadership development, she has recently stepped into the L&D role at Canine Companions, which is a new role for the organization. Shelley is excited to create a leadership development program for current and future leaders, while also creating a culture of continuous learning at Canine Companions.
