External Consulting Interest Group -- November 15, 2013

This group provides a collegial environment with opportunities to network, share best practices, and increase our knowledge of the business and marketing aspects of consulting. 

As agreed in our July 19 meeting, we will continue to follow the phases outlined in Peter Block's classic Flawless Consulting model in shaping future agenda topics.  Starting with Phase 1: Entry and Contracting, our September meeting addressed how to optimize our visibility and credability as consultants through social media with the help of our speaker Dawn Jensen. For those who missed her presentation, please see the Special Interest Groups Materials Downloads section under the Members Only link on the homepage.

The November meeting will continue to focus on Phase 1. Attendees are asked to bring and share their best practices around entry and contracting. For example, do you have special methods or techniques you use when first engaging with a potential client? How do you identify and search out organizations with which you'd like to work? What format has worked best for you in writing contracts? The second main agenda item will be to share what has worked and what hasn't in regard to social media tips and techniques discussed at the last meeting and/or used in the past.  

We look forward to a stimulating and productive sharing of practical ideas that we have found to work in our respective consulting practices.
