Influencing without Authority

Friday -- February 28  (not on our regular 2nd Friday)

The 2014 February bi-monthly meeting is scheduled later in February than our usual second Friday due to scheduling conflicts at our host location.

We will meet on the 4th Friday morning, February 28, 2014.

Program Description

OD and HR professionals hold unique positions in organizations and must lead change using our ability to influence others without direct positional power or authority.   We work across business functions and use our relationship building skills, persuasion, expertise and credibility to influence others in our organizational systems.

Join us for an interactive exploration of Influencing without Authority including exercises that draw on research in persuasion, negotiation, and basic human motivation to learn how to:

  • Develop and utilize power from sources beyond an organization’s formal structure.
  • Learn to quickly establish credibility and to use constructive persuasion and negotiation as viable influence tactics.
  • Recognize individual differences and utilize persuasive communication patterns that attend to the unique needs and preferences of those you are attempting to influence.
  • Learn to cultivate a powerful coalition and a broad network of relationships that support your initiatives.
